The origin story of Grassroots Herbs
Sarah started Grassroots Herbs in 2022 to bring herbal medicine into her clinical practice at Hidden Root Acupuncture, in New Orleans. While acupuncture alone can be effective, most people will get better results by combining acupuncture with herbs. Sarah focuses on quality in the pharmacy. She uses whole, dried plants in order to provide the best medicine to her patients while keeping the cost as affordable as possible.
Meet Dr. Sarah Welch, L.Ac.
Sarah is a doctor of Chinese medicine. She’s licensed by the Louisiana State Medical Board and holds a doctoral degree in Chinese medicine from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, Austin, TX. She is a diplomat of the TCM Dermatology course with Mazin Al-Khafaji.
In 2020-2021, Sarah spent much of COVID as a clinical intern at the Alternative Clinic with JulieAnn and Andrew Nugent-Head, who provided the most useful training she has found thus far. During those pandemic years she also completed her doctoral degree focusing on herbs and the real-life applications of Chinese medicine. After all that school, Sarah wanted to move to New Orleans (for the music!) She was invited to practice with a colleague in the CBD and everything fell into place. She moved in 2022, and now is busy working as a doctor and the founder of Grassroots Herbs.
Chinese medicine is simple, and Sarah loves being able to help patients get real results. She explains medicine using simple language and common sense metaphors. Her patients leave feeling better, and with a clear picture of the path toward better health.
